Primitive Way of Santiago
The Primitive Way is the oldest route on the Camino de Santiago, used by King Alfonso II in the 9th century, when he made the first pilgrimage to the tomb of Saint James, shortly after the discovery of his remains. This route begins in Oviedo , Asturias, and crosses the mountains of Spain until it connects with the French Way in Melide, Galicia, before reaching Santiago de Compostela.
